  • THE SIMPLE LITTLE CHURCH

Some say it’s just “a simple little Church”
it’s kinda broken down and weather worn,
but, to others it’s a step to heaven…
the place they were saved, and were re-born.

This “simple little church” in town…
or, maybe it’s out in the country far away,
is a place where many learned of God…
it is where they learned to pray.

Oh, the sound so sweet from it’s little choir
could just make the rafters shake,
and when the pastor gave God’s Word…
you can be assured, we were all awake!

It wasn’t like he yelled AT us
he just wanted to be heard,
    no rudeness was intended…
he was just excited ’bout God’s Word.

The little children all sat up front
except for the babies some women had,
for they were all just way too small…
so, they sat with Mom and Dad.

When the time came up for the kids to sing
they would step forward and smile so sweet,
    and when they started singing…
they even did hand motions, oh so neat!

Whatever happened to that “simple little church”
the one older folks can reminisce about,
what happened to the Olde Tyme Hymns…
that could make us cry and shout?

Oh, the building is there…it’s all boarded up
a fancier one was built…so it was forgot,
but, what happened to the enthusiasm…
that used to pour out all the way to the parking lot?

Oh, how I miss that “simple little church”
the one so filled with love inside,
    where everyone knew everyone…
and they just never passed you by.

The pastor always shook your hand
in fact, he even gave hugs too,
    he never was too busy
to sit in prayer with you.

I’m not saying that the church today
is too big or that it’s bad,
I’m just saying that it is possible…
they just don’t have the spirit “The Simple Little Church” had!

I STILL GO TO  simple little Church like that .It’s my childhood Church. We still have a Pastor waiting at the door to shake hands with us as we enter. We still sing the old song of Zion and we still have a mourners bench where people come to pray thru and find there savior.I am so blessed!

  • Certainly bigger and newer doesn’t always mean better – - the smaller things like your church retain its charm and dignity. And the true spirit.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
