A Child’s Garden
I planted myself a garden,
A garden of the heart,
I planted all the good things,
That gave my children a head-start.
I turned them to the sunshine,
And encouraged them to dream,
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem…
And when the winds and rain came,
I protected them enough–
But not too much because I knew,
They’d need to stand up strong and tough.
I tried to set a good example,
Always taught them right from wrong–
Markers for their journey,
That will last a lifetime long.
I am from my Mother’s garden,
I am her legacy-
And I hope that someday too…
My children will reflect the same of me.
